Toowoomba Regional Council’s Local Disaster Management Group is on alert as a further warning is issued for residents in the vicinity of the Cecil Plains fire.
The QFES issued a further ‘Prepare to leave’ warning this afternoon for the fire which is burning in the Kumbarilla State Forest as well as the Dunmore State Forest.
Toowoomba Region Mayor and Chair of the LDMG, Geoff McDonald said residents should take heed of further warnings from QFES.
“At this stage QFES have advised a large, slow-moving fire is burning in the Kumbarilla State Forest. It is travelling towards Cecil Plains Moonie Road, Cecil Plains.
“Council has recently closed that road due to the fire and conditions could get worse quickly.
“Firefighters are working to contain the fire supporting by Council and the LDMG. Council water trucks are helping with water supply on the fireground with the Millmerran airfield being used refuelling and filling of water bombers.
“The LDMG is asking residents right across the region to remain vigilant during this time as an increase bushfire risk remains due to current conditions,” Mayor McDonald said.
