Casey responds to cyber security incident

Victoria’s City of Casey Council has today responded to a recent cyber security incident affecting the council’s email marketing service provider.

WordFly, which handles marketing emails for the city’s entertainment precinct, Bunjil Place, has confirmed that subscribers of the precinct’s email newsletter were not impacted by the recent security incident affecting the company, Council said in a statement today.

“In July, Council were made aware that WordFly had been the victim of a cyber security attack and that the name and email addresses of subscribers to the Bunjil Place e-newsletter may have been impacted,” Council said.

“As a precautionary measure, we notified all Bunjil Place e-newsletter subscribers of the possibility that their names and email addresses may have been impacted.

“WordFly has now confirmed that Bunjil Place subscriber data was not affected by the security breach and has advised that they have put additional security measures in place to better protect customer data.”

Council said it was continuing to review its own policies and processes in light of the incident.
