A spokesman for the family of Dubbo Regional Council Mayor, Ben Shields has released a statement saying he has been taken off life-support but remains in intensive care at Dubbo Hospital, the ABC has reported this afternoon.
Fellow councillor, Greg Mohr said Cr Shields remained in a serious condition after a medical incident last week.
“Ben continues to be cared for by the wonderful staff here at Dubbo Hospital … the family cannot thank these medical professionals enough for their care and compassion,” Mr Mohr said.
“Ben has now developed other medical conditions which are being treated.”
The region’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Stephen Lawrence is acting in the council’s top job while Cr Shields is on indefinite medical leave.
Meanwhile, Dubbo residents came together in Victoria Park on Saturday to hold a candlelight vigil for Cr Shields.
“Members of the public were asked to share their stories and pass on their well wishes to Ben,” Mr Mohr said.
“Candles were then placed at Dubbo Regional Council’s main office building in honour of Ben.”
