The City of Canada Bay has won the Overall 2021 Sustainable Cities Award at the 2021 Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities Awards Program held yesterday on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
“When it comes to caring for our natural environment, we want to lead by example so I am honoured to accept this award on behalf of the City of Canada Bay,” said City of Canada Bay Mayor, Angelo Tsirekas.
“It is great to be recognised for our innovation and hard work in this area, and it shows a strong organisation-wide effort, great collaboration and a resolve to keep improving and enhancing our services for the community.”
It’s the third time the City of Canada Bay has won the award.
The Council was also a finalist in the following categories:
- Communication & Engagement – for our Urban Canopy program.
- Habitat & Wildlife Conservation – for our Backyards for Biodiversity project.
- Recycled Organics – for our Compost Capers program.
- Resource Recovery & Waste Minimisation – for our Multi-unit Dwelling (MUD) Contamination program.
“Our community is central to this win. We couldn’t have achieved what we have without our local partners and collaborators,” said Mayor Tsirekas.
“We remain committed to tackling climate change, reducing our emissions and enhancing the urban canopy and biodiversity in our local area, and we look forward to working with other Councils on this important journey.”
