Call to nominate for Albury youth council

Young people aged 12-24 who are passionate about the community are being encouraged to nominate for the AlburyCity Youth Council for 2023.

The Youth Council is responsible for representing and advocating for young people, building awareness and educating the wider community on youth related issues and making responsible decisions on behalf of their peers.

They also assist AlburyCity in developing plans and strategies that make sure young peoples’ views are considered in Council’s decision-making processes.

Current Youth Mayor, Lachie Carpenter said the Youth Council have delivered on some great initiatives over the past year.

“The Youth Council have been involved in some really great projects and events for young people over the last year, including being involved in the running of the Gindaymanha Sports Carnival, launching the Retro Recordings compilation album, fundraising for the Survivors of Suicide and Friends Winter Solstice Event, getting our hands dirty on Clean Up Graffiti Day, and progressing the Youth Strategy,” said Lachie.

“With our term now coming to an end, it’s time for a new wave of young people to get involved with their community and make a difference for young people living in Albury.”

AlburyCity Mayor, Kylie King said Youth Councillors are given many opportunities to improve their leadership skills, develop a greater understanding of the community, and work together on projects.

“Our Youth Council act as the voice of young people within our city, advocating for projects and initiatives that make our region a better place to live for youth,” said Mayor King.

Youth Councillors can be self-nominated, nominated by an individual, or by an organisation. There will be nine Youth Councillor positions, including a Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor.

The Youth Councillors will hold their position for a 12-month period, with an overlap period allowing handover to the next Youth Council.

You can now nominate on the AlburyCity website. Nominations close Friday 24 February 2023.
