Cairns pumps $3.1m into water mains upgrade

Cairns Regional Council has announced it will spend $3.1 million to replace water mains at 20 locations in the next six months as part of an ongoing maintenance program.

The Annual Water Main Replacement Program involves the replacement of aging and/or deteriorated water mains to maintain the structural integrity of the water network, Council said in a statement today.

“Selection of water mains to be replaced as part of the program are determined by the maintenance management system, which identifies where a water main has recorded a disruption to the water supply, and has logged more than three breaks in a two-year period,” it said.
