City of Busselton Council has unveiled a new electric sports-field utility vehicle (UTV) for Busselton Jetty Caravan Park.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to becoming more environmentally sustainable, the City is continuing to explore more environmentally friendly and cost-effective ways to manage its vehicle fleet,” the Council said in a statement.
The new UTV will be used daily by caravan park staff for checking bins, irrigation, general work around the grounds and moving materials or people. It replaces an older diesel-
fuelled vehicle.
Council says the new vehicle – which is powered by a series of rechargeable 6V batteries – enables a transition towards cleaner, greener park operations, while significantly reducing the level of noise emitted from daily work vehicle operations around the site.
The Council already sources 100% Natural Power for 16 facilities through a local government Power Purchasing Agreement, part of a Sustainable Energy Project coordinated by the WA Local Government Association (WALGA).
This has resulted in the City sourcing approximately 50% of its electricity needs from Natural Power. In addition, the Council has installed PV solar systems on several community facilities, including the Geographe Leisure Centre, Administration Building, Busselton Library, Naturaliste Community Centre, Busselton Depot and Community Resource Centre to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs.
