Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor, Jack Dempsey, has welcomed the announcement that Link Airways will commence scheduled direct flights between Bundaberg and Brisbane in November.
“Council has been working hard to promote the airport and it’s great to see this result in increased interest from new airlines,” Mayor Dempsey said.
“It’s fantastic to see Link Airways choose the Bundaberg Region as a new destination on its flight route and highlights the profile we have nation-wide as a desirable destination.
“This is certainly welcome news for locals and visitors alike and will help to address the growing demand we are seeing post-Covid.
“We have previously had two airlines operating this route from Bundaberg Regional Airport and that was very successful, so it is great to see another airline recognising the region’s potential”.
With a flight time of just over 50 minutes, the new service will provide passengers from Bundaberg and Brisbane the opportunity to spend a full business day at their destination and return home that same afternoon whilst also facilitating potential for weekend stays.
CEO of Link Airways, Andrew Major said the airline was very proud to be able to offer the new service.
“We see strong demand for additional direct flights and the proposed service will facilitate further leisure and business links between the two regions,” he said.
Mr Major said that studies conducted over a number of years had revealed a significant demand for flights between Bundaberg and Brisbane that provided business-friendly day return schedules and increased capacity on the route.
Mr Major acknowledged the cooperation of the Bundaberg Regional Council.
