Brisbane Lord Mayor excited to work with new Premier

Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner said his Council is excited about the opportunity to work with new Queensland Premier, David Crisafulli, and his team to help keep Brisbane moving.

“Brisbane is one of Australia’s fastest-growing cities, which brings enormous opportunities and challenges, particularly when it comes to transport and housing,” said Lord Mayor Schrinner.

“The former government had an appalling track record of playing petty politics to slow vital projects, like we experienced with Brisbane Metro.

“I’m confident Premier Crisafulli and his team will deliver the fresh start needed to help us deliver the critical road and transport projects needed to ease congestion.”

The Mayor said that with youth crime growing and concerns some inner-city parks have become no-go zones, community safety will be a top priority for the new Premier.

“As a former local councillor and deputy mayor, I know Premier Crisafulli understands the impact Labor’s long history of cost-shifting is having on local governments and the critical role they play in delivering for residents.”

“Despite our city’s growth, the former government was determined to rip-off Brisbane residents at every opportunity.

“For example, just recently Brisbane’s share of a $100 million south east Queensland infrastructure fund for councils was at a miserly 7 per cent, despite the fact we have more than 30 per cent of the region’s population.

“The former Labor State Government even refused to support Brisbane blackspot projects receiving Federal Government funding.

“We want to build better roads and improve public transport to ease congestion and make it easier to leave the car at home.

“Brisbane residents finally have a State Government that will work with us, not against us, and I look forward to working with Premier Crisafulli to help keep Brisbane moving,” said Lord Mayor Schrinner.
