The northern Brisbane suburb of Alderley is set for a major housing boost under Brisbane City Council’s Suburban Renewal Precincts Program.
The Council today announced the launch of the Alderley Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan, a blueprint to unlock more housing and jobs in one of the local government area’s key northside hubs.
The plan will focus on the South Pine Road and Enoggera Road corridor, from Railway Street to Moran Street, making Alderley the fourth precinct under Council’s Suburban Renewal Precincts Program.
“Brisbane is growing rapidly and housing supply is under pressure. With 96% of new homes delivered by the private sector, we need to do everything possible to create the right environment for new housing,” said Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner.
“Governments alone can’t solve the housing crisis, but we can make it easier for more homes to be built in well-serviced areas while protecting our city’s unique character.
The Council says the area has all the ingredients to support more homes: high-frequency public transport, shops and services, green open spaces, and close connections to jobs.
With around 40% of Alderley residents renting, the plan will create more housing choice and affordability, while supporting small businesses and revitalising the local economy.
Alderley joins Stones Corner, Wynnum and Mt Gravatt as part of the program.
“The Alderley Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan is about ensuring that the land zoning is consistent with community expectations,” said Councillor for Enoggera Ward, Andrew Wines.
“We have to be sure that we are getting the best outcome in the commercial offering in this area.”
