Blue Mountains City Council recognised the exceptional long service of several councillors at its February Ordinary Meeting.
The Long Service Awards were presented by Local Government NSW (LGNSW) to honour councillors’ contributions to Council and the community.
Local Government NSW President, Phyllis Miller OAM, Local Government NSW Chief Executive David Reynolds, and past president Cr Darriea Turley AM attended the meeting to present the esteemed awards.
The recipients included Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill, Cr Romola Hollywood (Deputy Mayor), Cr Mick Fell, Cr Daniel Myles, and retired Cr Kevin Schreiber.
Serving as a Councillor since 1999 and Mayor since 2013, Cr Greenhill received a 20 Year Long Service Award.
Cr Greenhill is the longest-serving Mayor of the Blue Mountains. He has previously been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his outstanding contributions to local government and the community.
Cr Hollywood, who received the 10 Year Long Service Award, was first elected to Council in 2012. Re-elected in 2016, 2021 and 2024, Cr Hollywood‘s contributions include serving as Deputy Mayor since 2021. She has been deeply involved in various committees, environmental organisations and community groups.
Cr Daniel Myles received the 25 Year Long Service Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Blue Mountains community. A former Mayor of the city, Cr Myles has played a significant role in various council initiatives over the past two decades with a strong focus on sports and recreation, strengthening the local economy and the financial stability of Council.
Also receiving the 10 Year Long Service Award was Cr Mick Fell. Cr Fell, first elected in 2012, has been a cornerstone of the community, especially during the recovery from the devastating 2013 bushfires. He has contributed to the development of cultural infrastructure, and the preservation of the unique character of the Mountains through his work on the Local Environmental Plan.
Kevin Schreiber, who retired last year after more than 20 years of service to local government, received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr Schreiber’s invaluable work has left a lasting legacy in local government and the community.
Blue Mountains City Council CEO, Rosemary Dillon said it was a privilege to recognise the service of these Councillors.
“It is with great pride that we honour these dedicated individuals who have given so much to our community,” Dr Dillon said.
“Their service has helped shape our city and has made a tangible difference in the lives of so many. I look forward to personally acknowledging their invaluable contributions.”
