Blacktown council services disrupted by strike action

Council services across the Blacktown City Council area will be impacted today following the announcement of 24-hour industrial action this morning.

Staff are reportedly striking over unresolved disputes regarding workplace safety, retail protection laws, and service standards.

The Council says mowing and maintenance of parks and ovals will be affected, along with street cleaning and waste services, graffiti removal, and some civil maintenance works including pothole repairs.

“Residents should be aware that splash parks at Nurragingy Reserve and at Blacktown Showground will not operate because of the industrial action,” the Council said in a statement.

“In addition, some community centres may not be cleaned today and may not meet usual service standards.

“Some scheduled red and green bin collections will not occur today or tomorrow.

The 27 suburbs affected by the changes to garbage services during today and tomorrow are listed below. The Council says other suburbs may also experience collection delays later this week. It anticipates services will be caught up over the weekend.

Residents are being asked to leave their bins at the kerb until they are collected.

Bulk kerbside clean-up collections are also impacted. Collections will still occur, but residents should expect delays, Council said.
