Blacktown City to elect new Mayor

Blacktown City Council is set to elect a new Mayor at an extraordinary meeting tonight following the passing of Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM.

Before the vote, Councillors are expected to give tributes to their late colleague, who served as Mayor from 2019 and proved a “visionary leader”, the Council said in a statement today.

The new Mayor will serve the remainder of the Council term, with Local Government Elections to be held on Saturday 14 September.

Mayor Bleasdale (pictured) passed away while on a flight home from China on 2 May following a study tour. He had been leading a delegation to Council’s sister cities in South Korea and China and had been due home the following morning.
