Bendigo leases new Botanic Gardens cafe

City of Greater Bendigo Council has signed a lease with AC & JR Group, the team behind the award-winning restaurant The Lost Cowe, Phillip Island, to open a new venture in the Larni Garingilang precinct of the Bendigo Botanic Gardens in August.

The new $7 million Larni Garingilang ‘Omaroo’ precinct was officially opened in October 2022.

Mayor, Andrea Metcalf said Council appointed Colliers International Bendigo to secure a tenant for the new restaurant/café/function centre.

“We are delighted the building is now leased. We welcome Omaroo to the new Larni Garingilang precinct and wish the venture every success in the future,” said Mayor Metcalf.

“I’m sure it will become a ‘go to’ food and events destination for both residents and visitors to Bendigo. The Bendigo Botanic Gardens are a beautiful setting and an exciting, new café/restaurant is sure to enhance what the gardens already have on offer.”

Co-founder and Managing Director of AC and JR Group, Aaron Clay said he was looking forward to being part of Greater Bendigo’s growing food scene.

“Omaroo will offer a top-quality modern, contemporary menu with a focus on locally sourced produce.  It will also feature art, entertainment and an event space for corporate functions, weddings, celebrations and other events,” Mr Clay said.

“Our company’s vision for Omaroo is rooted in the desire to create a truly unique experience that celebrates the local community.  We are excited to have this opportunity to provide a new dining experience and function centre with beautiful views, in one of Bendigo’s iconic settings and growing event spaces.

“We are committed to working hand-in-hand with local producers, artists, and community groups to ensure that Omaroo becomes a vibrant hub for connection, creativity, and enjoyment.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to this remarkable destination and share the exceptional experiences we’ve been crafting.”
