Bayside Council concerned by further Australia Post closures

Bayside Council has announced it will write to the Federal Minister for Communications as well as the CEO of Australia Post expressing its concern about the closure of more local Post Offices.

The Kingsgrove Post Shop, located at 263 Kingsgrove Road, Kingsgrove is scheduled to close on Wednesday 8 October.

The Rockdale Post Office (pictured) closed in September last year, while the existing Rockdale post office boxes remained open. However it is expected the Post Office Box Annexe in Rockdale will close in November, when Council will also lose access to its existing PO Box in Rockdale.

“Local Post Offices are a trusted part of the community, especially for older residents who rely on the in-person services for a lot more than just sending mail,” said Mayor, Edward McDougall.

“The closure of the Rockdale Post Office was a severe blow to our community. Australia Post promised that the parcel service would remain, but now even that service will close in November.”

The Mayor confirmed the Council will write to the Federal Minister for Communications, the Member for Barton and the CEO of Australia Post outlining its concerns and seeking assurance that services will be maintained in Kingsgrove and Rockdale.
