The Barossa Council’s Wellbeing Project is gaining momentum as it enters its next phase, with Council working as a conduit between services, partners and community to strengthen wellbeing across the region.
As Council works toward delivering a Wellbeing and Inclusion Strategy, it says the community’s voice is central.
“Feedback from community engagement highlighted the priorities that matter most to local people in the health and wellbeing space are being mentally well, having safe and welcoming spaces, staying physically active and being able to access affordable healthy food,” the Council said in a statement.
The feedback has helped create a wellbeing framework that includes Lifespan Action Groups, Advisory Groups and the Wellbeing Alliance to shape direction, action and collaboration.
Last week marked another key milestone with the inaugural meeting of the Barossa Wellbeing Alliance – a new partnership group designed to connect Council, community organisations and local residents. More than 50 people attended, demonstrating strong local passion and commitment.
Council’s Community Development Lead, Courtney Dswonitzky said the first meeting set a positive tone for the work ahead.
“It was encouraging and positive to see so many enthusiastic people attend the meeting. There was a real energy in the room with a shared vision to collaborate and create a thriving healthy community,” said Ms Dswonitzky.
“The health and wellbeing of our community is a priority for Council. Through the Wellbeing Project we’re building a more connected efficient model to support the needs of our growing community.”
Chair of the Barossa Wellbeing Alliance, Tania Materne said the Alliance will play an important role in bringing resources together into one place to make access easier for people.
“It’s about collaborating with groups to work together for similar goals, pooling resources and exchanging ideas,” she said.
“The Barossa Wellbeing Project will become a major resource hub that will make it easier for people to access support which will have a positive impact on the community.
“The Alliance’s role is to act as a conduit between the community and Council ensuring priorities are coordinated, and delivered, and that people don’t slip through the gaps.
“If we can harness the energy and passion that was felt in the room and keep working towards a common goal, we will see real and lasting benefits.
