Inspired by the energy, fresh produce and the vibe of the Prahran Market, artist Paul Sonsie’s mural on the wall of the Elizabeth Street car park speaks to the community in full and vibrant colour.
The artist was commissioned by City of Stonnington Council to create a mural that would reinvigorate and inspire the community after a long period of COVID-19 closures and restrictions.
City of Stonnington Acting Mayor, Melina Sehr said the mural would stimulate, excite and inspire – and create a place the community feels comfortable spending time in.
“The mural really defines this precinct now, and coupled with the newly-built community parklet over the road, this area is really inviting for visitors and locals to enjoy for years to come,” she said.
“We recognise that arts, culture and creativity are at the heart of health, wellbeing and prosperity, and are key drivers of economic, cultural and social growth.”

With these elements in mind, Mr Sonsie has creatively highlighted the importance of fresh produce, the Market’s progression over the years, and the feel that the Market generates for its traders, visitors and locals, the Acting Mayor said.
Aligning with the City of Stonnington’s objectives to provide its diverse community with a safe, inclusive and creative city, the mural also emphasises the importance of sustainability and the future of food production, she said.
