Arrest made in alleged dog baiting case

City of Stonnington Council officers have been working closely with Victoria Police to investigate reports of dog baiting, with Police today announcing the arrest of a 52-year-old woman.

“We can now advise that Victoria Police have taken action on this matter last night,” Council said in a statement today.

Police say a member of the public allegedly observed the woman laying pieces of meat along High Street last night.

“Upon police attendance, the woman was arrested, and suspected baits were retrieved from approximately 19 sites along High Street, between Glenferrie Road and Orrong Road,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

Police interviewed the 52-year-old woman from Prahran at Malvern Police Station last night, before she was released pending summons.

“The suspected baits are currently undergoing further examination to determine exactly what substances they contain,” Victoria Police said.

“Victoria Police has notified the RSPCA in relation to this matter and will continue to work collaboratively to address any incidences of animal cruelty in our community.”

Council has had reports of baiting in the following locations:

  • Cromwell Road, South Yarra;
  • Surrey Road, South Yarra;
  • Simmons Street, South Yarra;
  • Howitt and Hobson Street, South Yarra;
  • High Street, Armadale.
