Applications open for 2026 South Coast Community Leadership Program

Applications have opened for the South Coast Community Leadership Program in 2026.

The Program is a partnership between Bass Coast Shire Council and South Gippsland Shire Council and aims to grow leadership opportunities in both shires.

The Program is a free six-session course designed to help community members build their leadership skills. Participants will engage in workshops and individual reflection tasks intended to explore new ways of leading and connecting with other like-minded local people.

“Council is continuing to support our local residents through the Community Leadership Program. Council strongly encourages interested residents across both South Gippsland and Bass Coast to get involved,” said South Gippsland Shire Mayor, Nathan Hersey.

“This Program is great for participants who want to build their leadership skills and connect with others, but also for the wider community, as we invest directly in growing leadership opportunities across the region. The South Coast Community Leadership Program creates stronger, more connected local leadership for the benefit of all residents,” he said.

“Last year, we saw passionate locals from both of our councils and regions step forward through the South Coast Community Leadership Program, building skills, connections and projects that are already making a real difference,” said Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Rochelle Halstead.

“Participants showed what’s possible when local people step up to lead with care for their community. We’re excited to welcome the program back in 2026 and encourage anyone ready to grow, connect and lead across our shires to apply.”
