ANZAC Day relaunch for Boroondara war story

To commemorate ANZAC Day in 2022, Victoria’s City of Boroondara Council is relaunching its award-wining children’s book and education resource, Annie’s War.

Annie’s War – written by Lucy Bracey and illustrated by Gregory Mackay – is the true story of the Slade family who lived in Kew during and after World War I, and shares the letters written by seven-year-old Annie to her father when he was fighting in the European trenches of WW1.

Council says the book aims to provide young people in the community with a deeper understanding of the lasting impact World War I had on Boroondara.

Published by the Council with funding support under the Commonwealth Government’s Armistice Centenary Grants Program, Annie’s War was first launched on Remembrance Day in 2019.

It was awarded the ‘Historical Interpretation Award’ by the Victorian Community History Awards in 2020, which recognises the most outstanding local history project presented in a unique format.

Annie’s War also comes with a complementary activity resource pack created by Boroondara Arts aimed at Grades 3 to 6.

Download the activity resource pack.

Annie’s War is available for purchase via the Boroondara Arts Shop.
