Alpine Shire reports successful first six FOGO months

Victoria’s Alpine Shire Council has reported on the first six months of its Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) service, with 1,819 tons of general waste diverted from landfill via the service.

The Council collected data on the FOGO service between July to December 2023.

The 1,819 tons of diverted general waste has saved 1,034.1 cubic metres of space in landfill and reduced CO2 emissions by 265.74 tonnes, said Alpine Shire Council Mayor, John Forsyth.

The Mayor said the successes were a reflection of the community working together to make a difference.

“The FOGO service is one way that residents, ratepayers, and holidaymakers across the Alpine Shire can do their part to reduce their environmental impact,” he said.

“We are proud to see people in our communities taking these essential steps towards a more sustainable future for themselves and their loved ones.”
