All aboard South Brisbane’s new free bus service

Brisbane City Council has announced a new, free bus Loop service for South Brisbane will roll out from 23 January next year.

Civic Cabinet Chair for Transport, Ryan Murphy said the service will travel in an anti-clockwise direction along Grey Street, Montague Road, Vulture Street and Tribune Street.

“This new service will also be a great way for residents and visitors to experience everything South Brisbane has to offer,” Cr Murphy said.

“The route will take in South Bank Parklands, the State Library, the Queensland Museum and QPAC, as well as the shopping precinct on Boundary Street and the West End Markets.

“There’s a lot to see and do on this free service which will run approximately every 10 minutes.”

Cr Murphy said the free bus loop will be trialled for 12 months.

“We know that we need to help people get around as construction on exciting projects, such as the turn-up-and-go Brisbane Metro, ramps up,” he said.

“This service will help alleviate traffic congestion and make it easy for people to visit these popular spots, while also supporting businesses on the route.”

Business South Bank (BSB) Chair, John Barton said he was thrilled Council was prioritising the project early in the new year.

“The residential and business population of South Brisbane and West End has grown considerably, with the residential population expected to double by 2036, so additional infrastructure will help.” Mr Barton said.

“As South Bank is Brisbane’s number one tourism destination, this service will enable people to access multiple destinations in the precinct during their visit, which may in turn increase the visitor length of stay.

“We thank the Brisbane Council for this trial service and encourage all our members and the public to use it.”

The free bus loop will use existing stops as well as five new, rebranded bus stops, which are a distinctive green and white.
