ALGA issues funding inquiry submissions reminder

The Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) has issued a reminder to councils to contribute submissions to the national Inquiry into Local Government Funding and Fiscal Sustainability, by Tuesday 3 February.

The Association said financial sustainability remains at the top of its priority list in 2026, with councils continuing to face growing pressure on their budgets.

“We urge all councils to contribute submissions to the national Inquiry into Local Government Funding and Fiscal Sustainability, which closes on Tuesday 3 February, 2026,” it stated.

“The inquiry needs to hear directly from councils: the Committee needs to hear first-hand about the experiences of local governments.

“ALGA’s submission will present a united voice for councils, highlighting the need for untied funding for all councils, including through federal Financial Assistance Grants.”

ALGA said that if your council has already provided a submission in 2024/25, it will be considered.

“The Committee has confirmed that the information received as part of that inquiry in the previous Parliament will be reconsidered in this current Inquiry.”
