Airport flying high for Beef Week

With thousands of people flying into Rockhampton Airport for Beef Week, Rockhampton Regional Council has been making sure the terminal will provide a warm welcome.

Chair of Rockhampton Airport Councillor, Neil Fisher (pictured) said the team had been working hard to make sure the airport was in good shape.

“There have been some really dramatic changes at the airport over the past year, which is great to see,” Cr Fisher said.

“There has been funding from both the State and Federal Governments to upgrade security machines, the passenger terminal, lounges and more.

“Council has also been investing heavily and we’re happy to say that our new departure lounge will be fully open, along with a new café and bar, and even a beer garden!

“We have brand new amenities with state of the art no touch taps and dryers, we have tiled the whole concourse, installed fire protection sprinklers and replaced the ceiling.

“There has also been lots of landscaping going on, with tropical themed plantings placed along the paths you take to get from the carpark to the terminal. It really highlights our region as the Gateway to Northern Australia.

“We are doing this work to make sure we have a world class airport for our residents, and for those who come here.

“Visitors for Beef include senior politicians and national business owners – people who have the power and money to invest in the future of our region – so it’s great to be able to show off all our hard work to them and show them that our community is an excellent place to be.

“The airport is often the first and last things visitors to our region see, and of course it’s a welcome home for our residents. It’s going to make a great impression!”
