Adelaide Plains councillor declared not duly elected

The Court of Disputed Returns has declared Carmine Di Troia not duly elected as area councillor for Adelaide Plains Council and ordered a recount be conducted.

The order finalises a petition filed in the Court by the Electoral Commissioner of South Australia (ECSA) disputing the outcome of the recount that followed the resignation of
a councillor in October 2023.

“The dispute arose from an error in the settings applied by ECSA to the computer counting software used for the counting of votes in complex elections,” said Mayor, Mark Wasley.

“I would like to acknowledge Carmine Di Troia for his service years of service to his community, representing the Lewiston ward and, in recent times, as an area councillor. Carmine has always shown interest in all Council-related matters and I wish him well for his future endeavours.”

A recount of the votes cast at the November 2022 periodic election will be conducted
by ECSA to fill the vacancy. This process is expected to take place in early January 2025.
