$38m to flow to damaged bridges

More than $38 million is set to flow to state, territory and local governments under the Federal Government Bridges Renewal Program (BRP) to support 31 projects to upgrade and replace damaged or deteriorating bridges.

The latest funding will support projects that improve the ease of access and safety of road networks in regional areas, and enhance the productivity of heavy vehicle operations, such as trucks, said Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, Kristy McBain.

“This will improve the safety of our road networks, better connect communities, and reduce freight costs for businesses by ensuring that bigger and more productive vehicles can safely cross,” said Ms McBain.

As part of this round, $3.8 million will enable the replacement of the Brockley Street Bridge in Wodonga, Victoria, and $1.5 million will support the upgrade of the Red Rover Bridge in Gladstone, Queensland.

Applications for the BRP funding are accepted all year round from state, territory and local governments to provide flexibility and allow projects to be submitted when they will most benefit the community.
