The NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA) has announced a new auction of 10 flood buyback homes in Lismore.
To date, the RA’s Resilient Homes Program has offered 160 properties for relocation, with one property selling for just $1 and the highest reaching a bid of $200,000.
“We have now offered 160 flood-affected homes for relocation through the Resilient Homes Program, and each auction represents real progress in reducing future flood risk for these communities,” said RA Executive Director Northern Rivers Adaptation Division, Kristie Clarke.
“By relocating homes to higher ground, we are supporting safer neighbourhoods while giving these properties a second life.”
PRD Northern Rivers Real Estate will manage the auction, which targets locals and renovators ready to relocate these classic dwellings to flood-free land. The auction will be held at the Lismore Workers Sports Club in Goonellabah from 5.30pm on Wednesday, 22 April.
RA has established a Relocation Concierge service to support buyers through the house relocation process. Houses bought in the auction will need to be relocated within 11 months to meet program requirements.
“We are ensuring our iconic timber homes can continue to support the hopes and dreams of a new generation,” said Minister for Recovery, Janelle Saffin.
“This isn’t just about moving houses; it’s about leading the way in creating safer, more vibrant neighbourhoods while taking pride in our local architectural history.
“This unique program is delivering on its promise to create attainable homeownership for our locals, giving ten more families the chance to grow and thrive in a home they love, on land they can trust.”
