City of Moreton Bay has welcomed $1.5 million in Federal Government funding to deliver additional CCTV infrastructure across the Local Government Area.
Announced at the City’s Leaders Forum 2025 by Member for Dickson, Ali France, the funding will increase community safety and support crime prevention, said Mayor, Peter Flannery.
“City of Moreton Bay has already implemented one of the largest local government CCTV networks in Queensland, and this very welcome announcement will expand our safety network so residents can continue to feel secure in their own home and public spaces,” he said.
“We’ve heard the community calls to crackdown on vandalism and crime.
“City of Moreton Bay’s innovative CCTV network of more than 1,800 cameras already helps police and Council’s local laws officers respond faster to criminal and antisocial behaviour.
“I am proud that we were the first council to provide Vehicle of Interest alerts to the Queensland Police Service through our Licence Plate Recognition units.”
With more than 9,400 automated real-time alerts sent to police in 2023, Council’s initiative has played a pivotal role in managing unlawful activities, the Mayor said. Unlawful Use of Motor Vehicle offences across City of Moreton Bay reduced by 4% between 2022 and 2023.
The network also supports disaster operations and flood monitoring, protects Council assets, deters vandalism and illegal dumping, and assists in the management of localised crime issues.
“Council takes a very strong stance on public safety, with CCTV infrastructure providing an important deterrent and a valuable tool to help police reduce incidents of local crime,” said Mayor Flannery.
“Every person in our community deserves to feel safe and this funding commitment for extra CCTV is welcome.”
